This is Somali currency and that woman depicted on it is Hawo Tako.
Hawo Tako is the symbol of the Somali resistance to Italian Colonialism in the south. She’s depicted as armed but with her baby still wrapped to her side. Symbolizing both her role as a mother and a warrior. Somali women have always fought for our people historically at home and within the diaspora.
